I’m not sure where the time goes anymore. Is this a side effect of getting older? The rest of my night will be spent searching the internet for schematics to a time machine that I can construct in my garage.
Doing some last minute shopping for NYE dinner, decided to visit Kroger's instead of Wal-Mart.
Holiday + very crowded Wal-Mart = Cranky-Edgy-HyperAlert Rook.
The parking lot should've been a huge red flag, but then we usually have issues finding a spot.
Going inside, very few shopping carts should've told me "RUN , RUN!!"
Walked in, stunned....:blink:
"Where'd all these pipsqueaks come from???"
My brother surmised the students are back, their collective rich mommies and daddies with platinum cards were buying temp. stock.
"Hmm, I thought this crowd would be in wal-mart" ~twitch.....
We lacked one ingredient we use that Kroger's didn't have, my brother suggested walmart, so I grabbed a random kielbasa and shrugged "hell no, if this place is packed, imagine wally world"
"that's not the ham we get, and it's expensive!!" (he always was a penny-pinching miser, got him in teased as a kid.....he argued the cost of a butterfinger when it rose from a quarter to 50 cents..)
"I'll improvise, let's go, i can see the Lines from back here, use your imagination, it does have ham, you're close to seeing 2012, for now."
He merely grabbed his fave SoBe, and shut up....
The only part of Holidays I loathe.....Commercialized holidays, buy buy buy buy......
St. Valentine's? Buy this insanely big Pink teddy bear, why bother with a dozen roses, if u really love her, Buy these....75$ worth of soon to be dead 2 dozen!!!....And don't forget the 50pd box of chocolate !!! {i'm not kidding, I saw one...all I could think of was "wow, u really fucked up BADLY to buy that...."
Mother's /Fathers Day.....out of 365 days a year.....people pick that ONE day, to give them something.....and often, for the Father, it's a strange necktie?....My father was barely around, and when he was, the last thing on my mind was father's day......
Mother's got it better....
Dead flowers mostly, but still...cute stuff....
I still it oughta be a random deal every other day show appreciation, materialism kind of sux after awhile.
Won't even go there on the Easter/X-Mas thing.....
The officially recognized/federally recognized holidays srsly get exploited, no?
The quiet ones that slip by, or the lesser known ones {for now, shhh, hallmark's watching!!} seem to enjoy a smidge more respect.
At least within the U.S., I was a Military Brat, so we travelled.....Often....
The only times I saw "Excess" was in a global holiday, but not always revolving around Commercialism. X-mas in germany Was awesome. 3 Kings Day in Spain is somethin to remember. We stopped briefly in Israel once, during Sukkot, I was entranced with what I saw.....
I would suppose Holidays do help the sagging economy, but still, damn.... :blink::candle:

I had a bra that would randomly eject its straps. It was one of those convertible bras.
There was one time....not at band camp, but in a Mexican restaurant in Austin...that I was visiting friends and having brunch and then POP! One of the straps just up and flew off. As soon as I got that one tied down again, the other one came off.
That sparked a lot of commentary.

I can see the cute. This video though, makes me sad for the lion, and a little mad at the parents. The dad said this went on for about 5 minutes. Why, for the sake of video? Apparently his food dish was put closer than usual to the window. What he was doing is saying get the hell away from my food. I feel sad for the lion because he was probably agitated and on high alert long after that family walked away. Potentially making an already dangerous job that much harder for the keepers and zoo staff.

First Kisses on Street Corners
The new year has me thinking about beginnings and firsts. 2011 was the first full year that I was single since the breakup of my long-term relationship. In that year, I’ve kissed a few women. Each has a different taste, a different way of turning her head, moving in with hands, hips or tongues. Each one left a distinct and lovely memory.
There was the woman I met on the Olivia cruise. After three days of flirting and tension building, our first kiss, on the upper deck of the ship on a tropical breezy night should have been exquisite. Instead, as I leaned in to kiss her, she thrust her tongue straight into my mouth. It almost pushed me overboard. Maybe she just didn’t have her sea legs yet, because we eventually figured it out and shared some sweet kisses under a Caribbean full moon.
Then there was the girl I met at a comedy show. We had a nice connection on our first date over dark beer and nachos. I didn’t want the evening to end and asked her if she’d like to go on to Crush. As we stood by her car, negotiating who was going to drive, she looked me in the eye and said, “I think you need to kiss me right now.” How could I not?
The triathlete from Seattle came down on the train and we met at a concert. After the show, I offered to drive her to her hotel. After I illegally parked downtown, she turned and said “Here comes that awkward moment when we hug goodbye.” “Oh no,” I piped in. “I want a kiss.” It was not awkward at all.
Then there was the organic gardener. After three hours of talking in a Hawthorne bar, we stepped out into the misty dark. While deciding what to do next, “I want to kiss you,” slipped out of my mouth. “Right here on the street?” she asked. I didn’t answer with words. She let out a tiny moan and bit into my lower lip as she pressed me into my car, her inhibitions gone.
One of the first girls I dated after my breakup was a cute bicycling lawyer. We hung out for a few weeks in the “Are we dating or just biking buddies?” mode. Finally after acknowledging our attraction, we had our first kiss on the back deck of the house I had just purchased. The rest of the summer, we’d sneak into the backyards of houses for sale and let our dogs run loose while we kissed on strangers’ back porches.
A sweet summer surprise was the smoky redhead with a raspy voice I stood next to at an Indigo Girls concert at the zoo. She shared her boxed wine and we bonded as we bopped and sang along to our favorite songs. Just as the Girls started singing “Hammer and a Nail,” I looked at her, she looked at me, and we just started making out, right there in middle of the crowd at the zoo. I never saw her again, but the memory brings a smile to my face.
It’s a new year full of new possibilities and potential first kisses. Get out there and create some memories of 2012.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."
But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.
We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.
It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.
But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.
The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.
We cannot walk alone.
And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.
We cannot turn back.
There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: "For Whites Only." We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹
I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.
Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."2
This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.
With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.
And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:
My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.
Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.
But not only that:
Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.
Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.
Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.
From every mountainside, let freedom ring.
And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

This was so interesting. I feel bad for the guy. If she wasn’t into him she should have just said that. The male role is to pursue. *shrug* I’ve spent a lot of time dating men. Most were relentless in their pursuit. It reminds me of the phrase, “It’s only sexual harassment if they’re ugly.” In my experience in dating men, and one of the best things about it (IMO) there are clear rules. Women run and men chase. They generally are taught to be aggressive in their pursuits in business or with women. That if they work hard enough at what they want they will be rewarded. Years of poetry, books and movies reinforce this idea.
I remember my grandmother telling me once, when I was talking about a guy that I was seeing being upset that I wasn’t calling him back, that him being angry about my lack of communication was a sign that he cared and was invested. She was right. lol. So his being upset in the email that she isn’t responding doesn’t seem so far out there to me. He’s not threatening her or holding her cat hostage. He likes her.
With women, dating was never so easy. I made it easier by defining my role clearly and taking charge. The ambiguity was always maddening.
I’ve had guys show up at my job, call five of my friends to get my number, randomly show up wherever I am, send emails out of the blue….lol. Being “liked,” to me, is never a bad thing. I have had stalkers too. That was very different. After a relationship ended or someone who I didn’t know at all who never introduced themselves following me or calling my house at 3am and hanging up. In those instances I was clear that I didn’t like them that way. Only after I was clear could I judge them or their behavior. Up until that point it’s more a matter of perspective.

I also think that if you put your email out there on the net, don't protect your personal information, and someone uses what you have put out there, they shouldn't be immediately thought strange or scary. It all depends on what happens after they start emailing. Just some thoughts.

I drive an 05 convertable beetle and I just love it. I love the color, I love the seats, I love that its curvy(like me ;) ) and I love that in the warmer months I can put the top down and just drive with the wind in my hair.
Volkswagen has now come out with a new beetle model. It's bigger, sportier,(I'll admit it handles better) and they have gone for a more masculine look (their words during training) to "open up the market" I think VW did a great job with the new design and I will probably get one once my little bug bites the dust.
However, here on the car lot it seems people immediately love it or hate it. And those that love the new one hate the old one, and they are very vocal about it. And so, I must stand and listen to how much they hate the old style, how girly and curvy it was and "what's with the bud vase". Lol all the reasons I love it!

I thought that same thing. If you post your email address and you can even post your cell phone number some places - how can you get offended when someone uses it? Isn't that the point of posting it? lol. Back in the old days, we actually used phone books to look up numbers. I also thought it was strange, since he already had her phone number, why him having her email address would freak her out? I'd prefer the email route to the phone personally. I am more likely to give out my email address first, long before my phone number. Then we graduate to fb and THEN we do the phone thing.
