I went to my son's place for dinner. His gf made breaded pork chops which she soaked in pineapple juice, let marinate for awhile before breading them. It sounded horrible but they were actually quite good. She served fresh spinach pasta with an Alfredo sauce which she made herself with a pasta making kit my son recently bought her for her birthday. I would not like that for my birthday but she was thrilled with it. Since my son really likes Brussels sprouts she also served those, not home cooked, frozen from a Green Giant bag. I was skeptical when I saw her nuke them in the microwave, in the bag they came in, but they tasted great. They were nicely pre seasoned, surprisingly weren't mushy, and didn't stink up the house since they only had to be warmed not cooked. We had milk and water to drink. Afterwards just coffee no dessert because we were all too stuffed. I took most of mine home and there are enough left overs for two meals out of it. Wow! When she cooks she really cooks!

I had chicken and cranberry juice and an apple and an orange.
Had a procedure today where I had to be put to sleep and couldn’t eat so needless to say was starving. Made my mom stop on the way home (had to be driven home) and got a big ass burger and fries. Yup sure did. And man it was good.

I cannot say how much I’ve missed Thai in general. The spice was so nice. I could actually taste my food....

We were away for the long weekend, but Pete is visiting her mother so I am making potato soup and spaetzle.
The potato soup was delicious, but the spaetzle experiment resulted in undercooked little lumps.
I made corn salsa, a la Chipotle, pineapple salsa, a la some place we ate last week, and pickled red onions. Pete just hobbled out to buy dried pinto beans.
Guess what we’re serving our vegan friends tomorrow?

My Dad used to badger my sister and I into trying new things (food) when we were young (under 10), things like fried onions and broccoli. One day after we had refused once again to try his precious buttermilk, he added nestle quick to a glass, and asked me if I wanted chocolate milk...I took a drink, and spit it all back into his glass!

Maybe you just haven't tried buttermilk with the right food. It's delicious with a warm piece of cornbread (real cornbread, that is, not that Jiffy stuff).

Mine would use buttermilk in some cake recipes, too. She didn’t eat pigs feet but would roast or bake them for my dad and sister.
I’d pass on the feet, but would enjoy a small bowl of chit’lin’s with a little hot sauce. Maybe I’ll order some for the New Year.

I did not like buttermilk when I was a child. I could not get past the thought I was drinking old, soured milk. Later, as an adult, I had to acquire appreciation of it.
I like it best straight, just like regular milk ... get it really good and cold, chug it! Also, it is great for indigestion ... coats better than regular milk.
Never tried pigs feet on purpose. I did eat frog legs once by accident. I was tricked. A bunch of us had been out on the river skiing and drinking all day. We ended up at a party that night which served lots of freshly cooked food. I was wolfing frog legs when I started noticing my friends snickering. They were delicious, tasted like chicken. Who could know? I was side-winding drunk, told it was chicken and had no reason to doubt. When I realized the truth, I turned away from the group and the mouthful went into a napkin. It was over --->>> never to be revisited again. Makes my stomach flip just thinking about it. Ugh! And every once in a while, I run into someone who starts out with, "Remember that day when we were all drunk at the river ..." LOL!

I don't get the whole 'can't eat it anymore even though I liked it' thing. I do get the whole 'oh, Hell no I'm not eating that!' without having ever tried it thing. If I eat something and I like it, I'll eat it again, regardless of what it is.
One of my high school teachers had a secret pot luck buffet in class one time. He asked all of us to bring in a dish that most people would not eat or something most people would not have heard of before. He brought a dish too....chili. Except the meat was lion. He was former MP and had contacts all over the world and managed to get some despite it being illegal. I brought tripe. So disgusting and most people hadn't heard of it. There was rattlesnake (saltwatery) and dolphin (fish not mammal-eh, not my favorite) and a slew of other stuff. I tried everything except what I brought because I knew I hated it.
Dinner was technically chicken salad with pecans and cranberries inside it on yummy multigrain Club crackers and water to drink.

Tonight I’m actually cooking...
We’re having beef stew in the instant pot. I cut up steaks for the meat since the store I was at had no stew beef. I got the gorgeous three color baby potatoes as a splurge to make it prettier. Then I got the horse carrots because they actually do better in the instant pot than baby carrots. Gonna add green beans at the end. Wishing i had diced canned tomatoes. They disappear in the sauce but add a yummy thickness to the stew.
Honey may pick up a crusty bread, but my ass could do without the carbs. :canadian:

Last night I made an Winter veggie mix bowl of cauliflower buds, ripple cut zucchini and carrot slices, edamae, etc, and added pineapple salsa and added Chao Field Roast creamy slices of 'cheese'. After I prepared it in the bowl, I topped it off with Everything Sesame Seed salad toppers. It was very tasty and filling. I plan to have it again, tonight, for supper.
For dessert: a dark red Asian pear.
Water to drink, and maybe a cup of herbal tea (Cranberry).

We found beautiful potatoes and carrots at the Winter Farmers’ Market and I just made soup.
I oven roasted carrots and onions while I was cooking potatoes in vegetable broth.
When the veggies were roasted and the potatoes were tender, I added the onions and carrots to the broth.
I added salt and pepper and one can of coconut milk and I used my stick blender until the soup was creamy.
The soup is rich and flavorful and creamy and delicious!

I had grilled salmon, mashed potatoes and gravy, a side salad with ranch dressing and of course their dinner rolls with plenty of their special butter. Daiquiris, Margaritas and Hurricanes to drink, a couple sips of everything everyone else was having - they humor me like that. We had a pie contest at work today. A bunch of people make pies (fruit, cream, meat, whatever), a bunch of people taste them and then vote on which one is the best in different categories. I participated the first couple years we had the contest, but now I avoid it like the plague. They’re fun and people can be very creative, but I really don’t enjoy food like that and I had to do some work for my boss.
After the contest I saw one of the better cooks at the company, she offered me a slice of her apple pie and that’s what I’ve brought home for dinner.
So tonight it’s apple pie and maybe a cup of decaf.

I had two of these really cheap, disgusting, frozen, microwave according to package directions, supposed to be Chimichanga, supposed to be chicken filled – things. I should have bought Marie Callender's chicken pot pies instead. I had to add fresh diced tomatoes, cilantro, salsa , salt, pepper, onion powder and so much sour cream who even knows how many farms full of cows had to suffer just to make them edible, barely. But I guess it was worth it because I saved a lot of money by buying them, and not the pot pies, in economy size packaging. Plus they were so disgusting I can't imagine I'm going to have any problems from here on out pacing myself. And it was filling which is good because the pumpkin pies turning out bad were an even worse fail earlier in the day. I think I'm just going to eat whipping cream straight from the can for dessert.
