To understand my dinner, you should know about brunch first.

Brunch: cube steak, cous cous, and sauted mini peppers. Healthy. Solid. Complete.

Dinner: beets in vinegar, cous cous with crushed pineapple and juice, Cheetos and Nacho Cheese Doritos, pink lemonade, and chips and salsa.

What you need to know is that the meat came earlier and the appetite came later.

Pete and I made dinner together.

We had fresh corn from a farm stand and cod stew with diced potatoes, salsa and green olives with pimentoes, served over white rice.

It wouldn't have been as delicious if the weather were as hot as it was last week.

I had lime seltzer and Pete had a gin and tonic with lime juice.

This is what I'm working on making for supper tonight:

I cut up a couple of chicken breasts and brown the meat in olive oil, along with minced onion, celery and a clove of garlic. Then when that's done, I combine it with a jar of florentine pasta sauce, a dash of red wine, and let it simmer while I'm cooking noodles. I have no idea what you'd call this dish, but it's simple and easy to make and yummy!

I am thinking about cooking spaghetti tonight. I love the flavor of Kraft Spaghetti Classics Tangy Italian. It comes in a very small box and is difficult to find sometimes in the grocery stores. Everything is in the box - spaghetti noodles, spice mix and parmesan cheese. You just add water to the packet of spice mix and a six ounce can of tomato paste. I recently picked up two boxes. I think I will make both boxes - add hamburger, bell pepper and onion. Mercy! I am making myself so hungry for it NOW and it is only mid afternoon.

I intend to cook a three pound sirloin tip roast in the crock pot overnight - thawing it out now. I used to put a packet of onion soup in with the roast but it made the whole entire house stinky so now I use a few beef buillion (<--- spelling??) cubes. I can unplug it in the morning and put it in refrigerator. Both my dog and I can munch out on it next week. I will make coleslaw and boil some potatos and carrots to drop in the crock bucket after I unplug it. My dog is crazy about cole slaw - this is probably the only food that she will be rude enough to beg for. Tried once to put the veggies in the crock pot and cook with roast but the veggies disentegrated. :( I so much prefer the sirloin tip or shoulder beef roasts over the chuck roast. To me, I find the chuck ones are so damn greasy.

I made a lovely sauce with lots of garlic, onions and tomatoes....I even incorporated some from my garden which sweetened it up a bit....some ground sirloin.....and did I mention garlic? Then served that over a nice rotini pasta and a mixed greens salad, again, with more of my garden tomatoes.....and of course, red wine. :wine:

Hey Greyson,

I just call it skillet meatloaf for lack of a better name. I add an egg, minced garlic, Italian seasonings, chopped onions and bell pepper and (either crushed cereal, a few bread crumbs or crushed crackers...depending on what I have on hand) mix well form into patties and cook on the stove top til done to your likeness.

Last night, my girlfriend Gretchen took me out to dinner for my birthday to Proof, a great restaurant in DC.

Our four-course meal was extravagant with:
- Amuse bouche of crispy bread and goat cheese with lemon oil.
- an heirloom tomato salad with sheep's milk cheese, marinated red onions and a citrus vinaigrette.
- tempura battered mushrooms and green beans with an acidic pesto.
- handmade gnocchi that melted in my mouth with tomatoes, basil, and a light cheese.
- a Napoleon stack of crispy tofu, wild mushrooms, bok choy and summer squash drizzles with a soy-Ginger glaze.
- dessert of a cheese trio with raw honey as well as chocolate mousse Profiteroles topped with coconut cream foam and toffee drizzle.

Um, yum. I'm still full this morning. Lol.

Well dinner was an interesting event.

I just got over a nasty stomach bug.

So, I make a stromboli sans sauce. I just used cheese, ground beef, and onion.

It's very bready, which helps with the stomach.

About the time I put it in the oven to cook, the A/C went out. It was 90+ before the heat index. It got up to 81 in the house. Like I said, I just got over being sick. Heat doesn't help.

I ate about 5 bites of dinner.

I see errors in my new creation. I'm awaiting the opportunity to make it again and rectify those errors.

And now I'm hungry.
