It's too hot in the house, so I'm cooking all the food on the BBQ.
Steaks
Potatoes with fresh rosemary, garlic and onions
Corn bread
A pot of fresh beans with bacon, onions and corn
Stir fried veggies
For desert, strawberry short cake and fresh wipe cream!
Just a little get together of fellow gay folks, not many but we like to get together once a month.

A Philly Cheese steak sub with grilled mushrooms and onions from Publix.
Okay, so today I went back to Publix to buy the things I forgot to buy yesterday. I discovered the flip side of the order-ahead deli service: if they're behind schedule, your order won't be ready on time. I waited next to the special pick-up area, all alone, hungry, and no sandwich. While I waited, I watched the entire regular line of people who were ordering their subs on the spot cycle through at least 10 people. If I hadn't ordered ahead, I would have gotten my sub faster.
On the positive side, my sandwich maker didn't charge me for the extra cheese I ordered, and it was a nice gesture, but $1 isn't really worth 15 minutes of my time - especially hungry, and watching everyone else's delicious sandwiches being made.

I had the best Mexican dish ever I don't know what it was because the menu was all in Spanish. Basically I walked in, saw this little girl who had a huge adult size platter of some kind of gigantic, enormous, massive prawns, beans, rice, tortillas, lettuce and tomato salad and thought - That looks fantastic. I asked my server what it was but I could not even begin to repeat, pronounce it, spell it for you, all I caught was garlic prawn something to which I said - I'll take it! It was sooo gooood!!! And it was really reasonably priced. Plus unlike in American restaurants where if you order prawns they are the size of shrimp and you only get several there were 15 of these and they were bigger than silver dollars. So leftovers to boot - hurray! Plus real Coke's in glass bottles not foul plastic made with real sugar not high fructose corn syrup. It was hotter than hades in there - no AC plus it took and hour and a half to get my order, eat and pay for it because they were so slammed but it was so worth it - the food was just heavenly. I went there because the Mexican family I work for recommended it as thee place to go for tamales. So that was the plan, however when I pulled up they were barbecuing something that smelled so fantastic I didn't care what it was I just had to have it. Turns out it was chicken but it was all out because someone had called and ordered all the whole chickens they had left barbequed up for a celebration, some sort of party they were last minute having. I considered the tamales because they only wanted 7 bucks for handmade tamales, rice, beans, tortillas, a drink and dessert. But I couldn't resist - those prawns looked so delicious! And they were :)

Tonight, it's looking like chicken.
It was chicken! I sautéed a huge chicken breast in an Asian marinade in my cast iron skillet and basted it with the reduced marinade as it cooked. The chicken was delicious. I split it and ate half. Half is in the fridge.
For my veggie, I tried something I hate. I know I hate it but thought I'd try it a different way and maybe not hate it so much. It's moved THISMUCH on the foods I hate scale but still really doesn't make me happy. Brussels sprouts. They were steamed with sea salt and cracked pepper. I still had to douse them in chicken juice and more marinade before I could choke them down and had to cut them into slices so they didn't look like leafy testicles anymore. They are so disgusting but have so many vitamins. Nature's truly cruel.
I had to wash the taste down with some gummy bears and flavored water.

I've found that explosive taste of Brussel sprouts can be disguised by slicing them, ( like you would a head of lettuce, to almost the thick core) sautéing them in butter with salt and pepper, squeeze lemon over it. It tastes so much better. (Even with browned edges, if you turn up the heat. Add other goodies, garlic, sunflower seeds, be creative.)
You do this with spinach, or any other greens...get all the benefits while tasting so good.
Try it again!

I don't want anything! I'm in a mood and cranky and just don't feel like doing anything special so it will likely be me heating up the leftover kale and chourico soup I had for lunch yesterday. That's always easy and delicious so I should be good. Maybe I'll have some ice cream for dessert. That usually makes me feel better.

You can buy them already toasted but I find it cheaper and better tasting to buy the raw coconut chips. To toast, spread them out on a cookie sheet, sprinkle a little sea salt on them then toast at 350 F for about 3 mins. then give it a stir and toast another minute or two if needed. Careful they will burn quickly. Once they cool off a bit they are crunchy, plus coconut is a great source of proteins, healthy fats and carbs, so it's a guilt free snack. I make them up a half gallon jar at a time and keep in the refrigerator after toasting, for a handy snack.

it is in the microwave cooking right now while I sit outside and enjoy the last portion of light for the day ... 3 fresh white ears of corn from the farmers market .. butter and Himalayan salt on them before I stuck them in to cook .. I plan to cook them until they are sort of tough .... this is going to taste so good ... in fact, it will be the main event LOL ... decorate the side with fresh sliced tomatoes, cukes and white acre peas with cornbread ... milk to drink

Peanut butter, out of the jar and I used a spoon so that counts as dinner, right? (We're working lots of overtime right now setting up a new facility and I'm so tired, hunger isn't a real priority. Nutrition either, for that matter...)

Going to a "Chinese" buffet. Hoping there will be some chicken inside that 4 inches of breading, some beef under the diced frozen vegetables, some pork ribs deep down under that impenetrable dark brown teeth-rotting sauce and a few shrimps larger than fire ants.

Sea monkeys have been over-fished and are now an endangered species because soup made from their tails is prized for its properties as an aphrodisiac.
