I cubed chicken breasts and sauteed them in an olive oil/butter mixture with onions, jalapenos, cumin, basil and a little sea salt over wheat pasta. Added a little more olive oil to the pasta in my plate along with parmesan cheese.
The jalapenos came from my garden this morning :)
I ran out there and picked 3 of them for this meal

Lol! Pretty much the same stuff I generally have; olives, feta cheese, slivered almonds, artichoke hearts, and spinach leaves. :) Can't have a lot of the other veggies cause I am doing a high protein/high essential fats/low carbs eating plan. Sometimes I have raw asparagus or green beans instead of the hearts. :)

Well... need to clean out the fridge and clean it first... then going to grocery store for some Indian taco fixin's. Been craving them! Plus, some extra salad stuff.. craving that too.
Just realized I am low on both dog and cat RX food! Not good, as it is the last week of the month! Yikes! have to get the little bags... my older kitty is in kidney failure and needs his special Rx kibble and the dog seems to form crystals in his kidneys, so he has his special Rx kibble! These critters are expensive little poops! But, I love them!

We bought a ginormous jar of artichoke hearts from Costco a while back.
We're not really artichoke heart people.
When it was time to trash it, the jar was still half full.
This reminds me that I need to get some Greek olives to go with my feta so I can have a semi-Greek salad. :)
I was going to have a scone and some baby heads...now I have discovered I don't like the bakery's rendition of the scone well enough to eat it...I am *very* particular with baked goods...I was a baker for a while, and am a good baker, and grew up on good bakeries...all in all, I have to Really Like it or I take a pass...today I gave away a pumpkin tea bread from Tartine which I just didn't like well enough...
so...I will stick with the baby heads and find something else to tickle my taste buds...the stew will be good for lunch tomorrow...

Nope! We have a very strict order of the meal: appetizers (to open the appetite, so usually raw vegetables in salads, pâté with tiny cornichons, sometimes a few cold cuts....unless the meal is more festive), a main course of meat or fish with a starch and some cooked vegetables (small meat portion, small potato, rice or pasta portion, plenty of cooked vegetables), then a green salad (for digestion, as the vinaigrette helps cut down the fats in the previous dish), a cheese platter (with at least four or five different cheeses and crusty baguette), and dessert, which usually is fruit or yogurt (or both). On festive occasions, pastries, chocolate mousse, etc.... The only drinks are wine and water, sparkling or not. This is the kind of meal I had growing up, twice a day! No eating in between, no snacks etc....
So, in effect, French people do not eat much sugar!
The exception to the snack rule is tea time: a proper French tea is a large pot of tea, usually flavoured, served with an array of petits fours (here too, the rule is smaller is better!).
Voilà! (sorry if it disappoints!)

How can you be cranky with a glass of wine twice a day, a lovely croissant for breakfast, and meals which never repeat and aim to please the palate and the eyes?
There was an article last year in Time Magazine about meals in a preschool in Paris, and the American journalist (the mom in the article) said that the meals were posted for two months at a time at her child's preschool, and there was not a single repeat in 60 meals, with several courses every lunch time, even in preschool, and when she wanted to pick up her child early one day, the dining-room staff said no, the child needs to eat calmly his entire meal, including his green salad, his cheese and his dessert!
In other words, we take our food seriously, and it starts early!!!!

I'm a bit of a sugarholic and, though there is dessert, I tend to eat way too much of the sugary stuff. I've cut down a bit on it but it's one of those things that I won't be able to give up or pare down very much more.
I think that's excellent; the variety in the meals and also that a child's nutrition is taken very seriously. There are many things that I find fascinating and admirable about France.....:wine: is only one of them.

Got home late from work ... right now I am eating a bowl of Co-Co Pebbles. After this is gone, then I can think about something for a real dinner.
I have been up for 14 hours and this is what I have eaten today:
- a bowl of cornflakes with a sliced banana and milk for breakfast
- 2 peeled sliced tomatoes and saltines for lunch with a glass of V8 Splash
- a bowl of ice cream
Then the bowl of Co-Co Pebbles I am munching now.
I did not realize I was so hungry until I walked in the door from work. Then it was a mad dash to the kitchen to find something fast because I was getting shakey. I hate when I do that. Does anyone else here neglect eating to the point that there hands start shaking???
I don't do it often but when I do, I feel like a ravenous bear when it catches up with me.

All the time. I work in the OR, and somtimes when my lunch relief gets there, my Doc won't let me go because we are closing. And in plastic's, closing can take a long time...LoL

I really wasn't sure until I started pulling ingredients out of the cabinet.
I had thawed hamburger yesterday and used some to make a couple patties, so I had to figure the meal out for tonight as I went along. I broke up the hamburger and fried it in a pan, I then added cumin, chili powder, garlic powder and onions. Next came the cabinet items, I dumped a can of Rotel with habaneros, a can of black beans and a can of tomato sauce. Stirred it all up and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Put some in a bowl and sprinkled a shredded 4 cheese blend and ate it with crunchy tortilla chips. Talk about not knowing what's on the menu until the last possible minute.

I had a "carbonnade" simmering all day (a beef stew, from the North of France, started with caramelized onions, leeks, carrots and celery, then quickly browned beef, two bottles of Sierra Nevada Heifeweizen, bay leaves, fresh lemon thyme sprigs, orange peel, sea salt and fresh ground pepper). The aroma wafted through the house, it was lovely! Served with tiny steamed fingerling potatoes from the farmer's market, a green salad, and pear tart for dessert. Glass of Alsace Riesling.
Enough left for two more meals!

Do you have a recipe for tacos?? I want to make them but no recipe :(
You can always make tacos. All you need is the hamburger or other meat of your choice and a packet of taco seasoning. Throw your extras like sour cream, shredded cheese, olives, salsa, guac, tomatoes, onions, jalopenos, etc on and you are good to go! Tacos are enjoyed often in our home. :tease:
To make it more interesting and/or healthy, you can make a taco salad. I prefer either fresh spinach or romaine.

I made delicious vegetable soup.
I started with stock I made last week. I roasted carrots, onions, parsnips and garlic from our farm share and when they were nice and brown,
I covered the roasted veggies with water in a huge stock pot, and cooked them until I was tired of smelling the broth. I ended up with two gallon size freezer bags of stock.
Tonight, I roasted two butternut squash, sauteed cut up leeks in olive oil, and threw everything in a large stock pot with one freezer bag of stock, a cut up head of cauliflower and five diced potatoes.
I used my new stick blender to blend but not puree the veggies, and it was a little bland, so I added a nice big hunk of mild white miso.
Pete bought us a small wheel of camembert and a loaf of crusty bread, and we had a delicious dinner.

Hi Cowboi, how r ya??Oh yes,DMSO,I remember that stuff. The first time I used I I had barely herd of it,my boss had a horse with a hurt leg and he said "rub this stuff on real good"..nobody said to use rubber golves and NOT to breath the fumes....hehehe yep it was the clasic get up,pass out, then everything smeled and tasted really nasty for ever and ever includeing mayself till it wore off.I learned a big lesson that day.
OMG, that's some lethal stuff! :|

A French stew with a Thai twist: carrot/leek/shallot/garlic/mushroom/chicken stew with coconut milk instead of cream, and green Thai curry: delicious fusion! An orange/cranberry scone for dessert, a glass of Chardonnay.
