It was the first autumn market: the first apparition of the woman who comes only in the fall from her farm upstate, with eight different kinds of grapes, fresh grape juices from all varieties, and wines; besides grapes I bought two varieties of Asian pears (a russet and a golden kind), leeks, Florence fennel, two big bags of tomatoes for making the last batch of sun-dried tomatoes, tiny fingerling potatoes (a French variety), a large bag of perfect shallots, a huge bouquet of basil for the last batch of pesto, and figs. The pumpkins and squashes beckoned, but I could not have carried much more! Next week!
Need I say I love the fall and its abundance?

I made a reduction from the pan and put in some heavy cream and more goat cheese so it is all lamby, curry, creamy, sesamey, goodness this was my "salad dressing"

Had my regular Thursday night date with my favorite baby butch in the world - my 6yo granddaughter. Went to her favorite restaurant - "the cowboy restaurant" (Texas roadhouse). For supper tonight, I made toasted Tuna & Egg salad sandwiches to go with a homemade soup that I made from summer, early fall squash (acorn, banana & pumpkin).

The soup was thick and creamy and spiced lightly with a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon; with a bit of sea salt and honey, too. The soup was delicious. Sandwiches too.

Will probably make an apple pie tomorrow afternoon.
But I feel like making cookies tonight (oatmeal, walnut, raisin):

My boss gave me some fire roasted chiles she cooked and froze in quart zip locks. She was in Hatch, New Mexico with her husband and brought home a bushel of them. Before I left work, I already had planned what to use half the bag for. I stopped at the grocery store picked up a few items I didn't have and began preparing a meal. I took a big can of diced tomatoes, sliced a pound of carrots, diced a large onion, chopped up the roasted chiles and tossed it all in my crock pot. I opened a can of black beans, rinsed them and added to the pot. I cut up 1 1/4 pounds of sirloin steak and added it along with a can of chicken broth. Finally I diced up 3 potatoes, added cumin and 3 smashed and diced garlic cloves. Mixed it all up, put the lid on, turned it on high and will probably not get to eat it until tomorrow...here's hoping it comes out with a little bite to it or a big bite from the chiles. I'll probably have to freeze some in individual servings since the crock is filled to the max.

Tonight I roasted the organic vegetables that we still hadn't used from a local farmers market. We had roasted sweet potatoes (that were the size of fingerling potatoes), corn on the cob (cut into small rings), carrots (that were miniature version of regular sized carrots) and radishes. The sweet potatoes were drizzled with olive oil and dusted with paprika and the other vegetables with olive oil and fresh ground salt and pepper.

Dapper enjoyed it so much, hy went back for seconds... and then stole one of my corn on the cobs. Shocking, I know. ;)
